Ece Bal ile Koku Atölyesi
The latest installment of the "Production Methods in Contemporary Art" workshop series, led by artist Ece Bal, will focus on the use of scent as an expressive element in contemporary art.
The workshop, which draws inspiration from the relationship between plants, scent, and memory, which holds a significant place in Bal's artistic practice, will explore scent as a tool that triggers the creation of colors and images. Participants will create the sensory world of a fictional memory through the colors and images evoked by plant-based scents, and then express this narrative through imagined plant forms. The workshop aims to encourage participants to collectively reflect on the role of scent in image creation within the fluid space between memory and imagination.
_*The language of the workshop will be Turkish._
**Ece Bal** (born 1992, Turkey) studied cinema at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, graduating in 2022. Bal's artistic practice is based on process-oriented research using natural materials. Her work explores the transformation of matter, memory, and relationships of scale, adopting an approach that connects traditional knowledge and techniques with speculative possibilities. The artist combines traditional techniques such as marbling and glassblowing with experimental research methods involving scent, video, and choreographic elements to create multi-sensory experiences. Her group exhibitions include Upon a Rock I Grew (Galerist, Istanbul), In the Making Chapter 1 (Galerie Maïa Muller, Paris), Présentation des vases-trophées pour les Jeux de Paris 2024 (Musée national de céramique, Sèvres), Sur le feu (Palais des Beaux-Arts, Paris), Coup d’éclats (Musée du Louvre, Paris), and Koyun Koyuna (Arter, Istanbul).
