"The Adventures of Prince Achmed," one of the earliest feature-length animated films, recreates the magical world of the Arabian Nights using light, shadow, and movement. Lotte Reiniger's meticulously cut silhouette figures move across multi-layered glass surfaces, creating a unique visual universe that ranges from flying horses to wizards, from fantastical creatures to faraway lands. The film, which tells the story of Prince Achmed's journey with his magical horse, is considered a cornerstone of animation cinema due to its sophisticated animation techniques, rhythm, and visual imagination, which far surpassed the technical capabilities of the time.
