2021 | DCP | Color | 71 minutes | With sound | Turkey
Zeyno Pekünlü's "Camera-less" reimagines Dziga Vertov's seminal experimental film, "The Man with a Movie Camera" (1929), through the lens of contemporary image production methods. The film consists of 325 images collected from an online video sharing platform, meticulously arranged to follow the original film's structure scene by scene, creating a new work. From mobile phone cameras to GoPros, dashcams to drones, these devices take the place of the camera and cameraman in Vertov's world. "Camera-less" explores how the utopian vision of the camera as an extension of humanity in 1929 has transformed into a reality of constant image production, prompting reflection on who creates the images, who consumes them, and how the relationship between humans and cameras has changed.
