"We will celebrate the day we accustom it to our water. We will proudly boast about the creature we have brought into our lives, a being that appears terrifying, dreadful, and ugly, but is actually sullen, very calm, extremely timid, incredibly sensitive, kind-hearted, sweet-looking, and easily frightened. We will do everything we can to upset it. It will be surprised, and then it will endure. We will turn it into a poet, a grumpy person, someone who feels misunderstood. One day we will criticize its sensitivity, the next day its love, the third day its timidity, and we will drive it to the point of despair. We will systematically strip away everything beautiful within it."

"Alemdağ'da Var Bir Yılan," the last book published before Sait Faik's death, is being staged with a unique adaptation by Yakîn Tiyatro.
