Kafka Dava Oyunu

This play is an adaptation of Franz Kafka's novel of the same name, staged by Yakın Tiyatro.

The philosophical underpinnings of Kafka's novel "The Trial" lie in the existential philosophy of Søren Kierkegaard. According to Kierkegaard, human existence is individual and cannot be objectively defined; it represents the personal experience of a finite being encountering the infinite. The realization of being "arrested," which marks the beginning of the novel and reflects the human condition, initiates a crucial mental process for the novel's protagonist, K., as he transitions from the objective realm to the subjective one. K. is now filled with anxiety. Kierkegaard briefly explains the difference between fear and anxiety as follows:
"...Fear is a retreat from the terrifying possibilities that lie beyond the realm of human conscious power. In contrast, anxiety arises as a result of the immense potential inherent in a person's capacity for action..."
According to Kierkegaard, a person's journey through life is the result of the "free" choices they make. Kierkegaard believed that making choices, and making them in a timely manner, is crucial. Many people try to find a way to avoid the responsibility that comes with making choices. This avoidance stems from anxiety. Some people, instead of choosing their own path, try to satisfy the expectations of others. Kierkegaard addresses these individuals as follows:
"You're essentially nothing; to others, you're just a relationship."
