Waterfront Walk from Üsküdar to Kuzguncuk

A calm shore walk that starts with Sinan's mosques, takes in the mosque, church and synagogue standing on Kuzguncuk's single street, and carries on to Beylerbeyi Palace. As you follow the Asian shore your view swings from Sarayburnu towards the bridge. On the way back, wait for sunset at Salacak facing the Maiden's Tower; it is about 5 km in total and mostly flat waterfront, so it will not tire you.

Mihrimah Sultan Mosque and the Ahmed III fountain on the pier square; Sinan's Üsküdar in twenty minutes.

Facing the Üsküdar pier, the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque (1548) is an early work of Sinan dedicated to the same princess as its namesake at Edirnekapı. The Ahmed III fountain in the square, the Şemsi Pasha Mosque on the shore and the Salacak promenade are all together here. From the waterfront, the old-city skyline is at its best in the evening.

A tiny mosque set right on the water at Üsküdar, one of Sinan's most graceful small-scale works from 1580. Its nickname 'the mosque where birds don't land' comes from the sea wind. The courtyard and the quay in front are among the best places to sit facing Sarayburnu; a 15-minute stop.

A 20-minute walk to beneath the bridge; guided tour of the summer palace and tea on the garden terrace over the Bosphorus.

Built in 1865 as a summer palace beneath the Asian foot of the Bosphorus Bridge, Beylerbeyi is the smaller, calmer counterpart of Dolmabahçe. Its halls with marble pools, the garden terraces over the water and the tunnel passage are seen on a guided tour. One hour; it fits the same day as Kuzguncuk and Çengelköy.
