Ankara's night divides into three centres, and luckily for you they are all close together. Meet the sunset at Kuğulu Park, choose a meyhane or pub in Tunalı's back streets, and towards midnight move to the live-music bars of Kızılay's Sakarya district. If the night runs long, 7th Street in Bahçelievler is open even at three. The metro stops around midnight, so budget a taxi home and make no plans for the next morning.

Kuğulu Park

Swan Park: Ankara's Peace Stop

~30 min here
Çankaya, Kuğulu Park, Çankaya/Ankara, Türkiye

Around 19:00; swans, a park bench and the plan for the evening. Get your coffee from the end of the street.

One of the most popular green spaces in the capital Ankara, Kuğulu Park is an essential stop for those who want to connect with nature in the midst of city life. Located in the Kavaklıdere neighborhood, right next to Tunalı Hilmi Street, this charming park is one of the favorite relaxation spots for Ankarans, especially known for its tranquil atmosphere, the pond famous for its swans, and lush green areas.

Named after the white and black swans, ducks, and geese that inhabit it, Kuğulu Park has been welcoming visitors for years with its nature-friendly structure. The park's pond offers a natural habitat where these elegant birds glide and swim, while the surrounding walking paths and benches provide visitors with a peaceful resting opportunity.

Opened in the 1960s, Kuğulu Park has gradually become one of Ankara's most beloved parks. Especially in the spring and summer months, it is filled with people sitting in the shade of trees reading books, taking photos, and enjoying pleasant moments with their loved ones. The cafes and restaurants around it also complement the vibrant atmosphere of the area.

Tunalı Hilmi Caddesi

Tunalı Hilmi Avenue.

~45 min here
Tunalı Hilmi Caddesi, Kavaklıdere, Çankaya

Bestekar and Tunus streets; meyhane, pub, live music. Book ahead at weekends or you will wait at the door.

Running from Kızılay down to Kuğulu Park, Tunalı Hilmi is Ankara's best-known shopping and cafe street. The real life is in the side streets; Bestekar, Tunus and Bülten line up restaurants, pubs and live-music venues. Window shopping by day, coffee at dusk, bars at night; one axis covers every hour. Being close to the embassies, it is where foreign visitors feel most at ease, and English menus are easy to find.
3
Güvenpark ve Kızılay Meydanı

Güvenpark and Kızılay Square.

~25 min here
Kızılay Meydanı, Atatürk Bulvarı, Çankaya

Walk twenty minutes along the boulevard to Kızılay; the square by night is a different place from the square by day.

At the heart of Kızılay Square, Güvenpark is small, but every line in the city crosses here; it is laid out around the 1935 Güven Monument by Anton Hanak and Josef Thorak. Sit on a bench for ten minutes and you have taken Ankara's pulse. Around it are the fish-sandwich stalls and bars of Sakarya Street and the bookshops and cafes of Karanfil and Konur streets. The metro and Ankaray run right beneath you.
4
Sakarya Caddesi ve Kızılay Sokakları

Sakarya Street and Kızılay Street.

~1 h here
Sakarya Caddesi, Kızılay, Çankaya

Dive into the rock and Turkish-music bars on Bayındır and Tuna streets. At one in the morning you can still find a fish sandwich.

Pedestrianised Sakarya Street and the Selanik, Bayındır and Tuna streets that open onto it form Ankara's cheapest and most crowded eating district. Fish sandwiches, kokoreç, mussels, wet burgers and endless tea. In the evening students, civil servants and musicians mix in the same street, and long-standing music bars such as Nefes are here. No tourist polish; this is the city's everyday self, and that is exactly why people love it.
5
Bahçelievler 7. Cadde (Aşkabat Caddesi)

Bahçelievler, 7th Street (Askhabat Avenue).

~1 h here
Aşkabat Caddesi (7. Cadde), Bahçelievler, Çankaya

Come over in ten minutes by taxi. The late-night dessert shops and student pubs are here, and so is the last tea of the night.

Seventh Street, officially Aşkabat Street, is the backbone of Bahçelievler; a strip you walk between cafes, pubs, dessert shops and döner places. Just west of Anıtkabir, its student and young-professional crowd makes it a real alternative to Kızılay. Outdoor tables fill on summer evenings and you will find somewhere open even at three in the morning. The natural address for lunch or an evening after Anıtkabir.
