The event, "Tracing Tatavla's Legacy in Kurtuluş," led by Hüseyin Irmak, draws inspiration from Hera Büyüktaşcıyan's solo exhibition, "Ghost Quartet," currently on display at Arter. The exhibition, which explores themes of memory, architecture, and nature, serves as the starting point for the tour. Beginning at Arter and continuing to Kurtuluş, the tour culminates back at Arter, inviting participants to reflect on the exhibition in relation to the city.

This event, which will explore Kurtuluş (formerly known as Tatavla) as a layered space of memory, aims to critically examine Tatavla, a place that once hosted gardens, canals, and a multicultural social life, and where the artist spent their childhood and youth. The tour will include stops at significant landmarks in the neighborhood's history, such as the Aya Dimitri Church, Despina Restaurant, and Sefa Square, allowing visitors to understand Tatavla's transformation through fires, migrations, and political upheavals, as reflected in its streets and buildings. The neighborhood's architectural fabric will be discussed in the exhibition, alongside the concepts of memory, visibility, and invisibility.

From Tatavla to Kurtuluş: An Ancient Neighborhood in Şişli. "Let's Go to Tatavla: A Neighborhood That Hasn't Lost Its Grandeur." Through this route, created by Hüseyin Irmak, the author of the "Tatavla" and "Kurtuluş" books, participants will explore how the physical transformation of a neighborhood impacts its memory, and discover traces that connect the past and the present.

The event will begin at 11:00 AM in front of the Information and Ticket Desk at the entrance of Arter. Upon arrival at the meeting point, staff from the Learning Programs team will direct you to sign a document outlining the event guidelines.

The language used in the workshop will be Turkish.
