I'm giving up on being a fish.

The late 1970s, the early 1980s... Çilem decides to break free from the boundaries set for her and arrives in Istanbul from Ahlar Village on the first train she finds. On the train, she meets Meryem Ana, a woman from the Black Sea region, who accepts her as a spiritual daughter and takes her to her home on Ihlamur Street.

Çilem leaves her hometown and, fueled by the "courage" born from the "oppression" she experienced, sets out in pursuit of "freedom." However, this journey, which begins in Istanbul, will reveal to her that freedom is not as simple or straightforward as she had imagined.

In Bülbül's silence, Halil's quiet resistance, Kezban's acceptance, and Meryem's sacrifice, Çilem begins to understand that captivity may not have just one face. "I Give Up on Being a Fish" tells the story of the invisible bond between captivity and freedom, a connection that may seem distant but is, in reality, intertwined at every moment.
