In the 1990s, Turkey was shaken by a growing number of unsolved murders and political scandals. The legacy of the previous decade extended beyond these dark events, also contributing to the rise of human rights movements that would gain momentum in the 2000s. Ebru, who grew up in a left-wing, secular family in a rural area, gained admission to the Faculty of Literature at Istanbul University. For the first time in her life, she arrived in Istanbul and was placed in an apartment next to her relatives. As the 1990s were etched into the pages of history, the young woman searched for her own political identity and a similar environment to that of her uncle, a former student leader who had been forced to leave the country in 1980, often finding it in unexpected and sometimes humorous ways. Soon, Ebru's search within the university's corridors, lecture halls, and cold courtyards was overshadowed by the Manisa Youth Case, unsolved murders, the Susurluk crash, and the events of February 28th. The play, written by Sema Elcim, supervised by Ayşenil Şamlıoğlu, and directed by Nagihan Gürkan, features Başak Bugay as the artistic director. Bugay is a visual artist who creates works exploring the individual and societal implications of violence, security, and privacy. The team, aiming to bring together different disciplines, uses video art illusions and spatial installations composed of mixed materials, sculptures, and paintings, which they describe as "decorations waiting to be performed," to encourage the audience to turn inward and confront their own realities.
