A woman (Maya Deren) crawls onto the beach and climbs a tree trunk. Upon reaching the top, she unexpectedly finds herself at a bourgeois gathering, sitting at a long dining table. "On Land" is a film about "a person's struggle to maintain their identity," according to Deren. Using the possibilities of the camera, the film explores the limitless possibilities of reality, space, and time. The film's cast includes John Cage, Parker Tyler, and Philip Lamantia, who made their mark on the American art world of the 1940s.

In "Meditation on Violence," Maya Deren examines the Wu Tang martial arts performance of actor and dancer Chao-Li Chi through the lens of ritual and dance. USA / 1945 / 4 min. / Black and White / DCP / Silent
Maya Deren, who studied Haitian rituals alongside the renowned choreographer Katherine Dunham, considered the queen of modern African-American dance, meets Talley Beatty, one of her students, and "A Study in Choreography for Camera" is born from this encounter. This study, which marks the beginning of Deren's films that center on dance and choreography, shows the continuation of the time-space shifts seen in "On Land," and in which the camera and the body are freed from the boundaries of space.
4. Witch's Cradle (Cadı Beşiği)
Director: Maya Deren
Screenplay: Maya Deren
Cast: Marcel Duchamp, Pajorita Matta

Maya Deren's "unfinished" film, "Witch's Cradle," follows a tangled thread that passes through the hands of different people. The film, shaped around recurring ritualistic images, offers an unsettling dreamlike atmosphere, and features Marcel Duchamp, a pioneer of avant-garde art, among its cast.
