Kafka ya da Biz
"They were given the right to choose. They would either become king or serve as the king's representative, just like any other child."
They chose to become journalists.
Because there are only messengers, they travel the world, passing on news that has become meaningless because they can no longer reach the kingdoms that no longer exist.
They wanted to end their miserable lives, but the vows they had taken were binding them, holding them back.
The "Kafka or Us" workshop, featuring students from the A.H.E.N.K Atelier & A.H.E.N.K Theatre's long-term acting program, is an experimental and performative stage production that explores the increasingly fading existence of the individual in the face of everyday routines and systems. It will be presented during the 2026-2027 theatre season, marking the transition of these students into the professional sector.
Inspired by the works of Franz Kafka, "Kafka or Us" aims to make visible, through a physical setting, the distance that individuals create between themselves and their surroundings within a seemingly familiar and ordinary system.
It proposes a mode of performance and expression that is generated through a physical experience, suggesting a narrative language that centers on the body and its parts.
The game establishes a sense of alienation by focusing on elements of repetition, rhythm, and action, without relying on explicit dialogue.
The work explores the relationship between performers through mirroring and physical transformations, examining how the body becomes a means of expression. It questions the individual's place within a collective structure, even delving into the realm of the mind, and incorporates the relationship with the audience into the theatrical language.
"ONE OF THE CAGES WAS OPEN, AND A BIRD HAD FLOWN AWAY."
