"The Law of the Borders," a significant work in Akad's effort to convey social realities through a simple and direct cinematic language, centers on the plight of villagers living near the Syrian border, who make a living through border smuggling. Through the story of Hıdır, played by Yılmaz Güney, the film questions the system of feudalism, poverty, backwardness, and the unequal structures that drive people to crime. The film, censored three times, is now considered one of the most important works in Turkish cinema. It won Yılmaz Güney the Best Actor award at the 1967 Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival and was restored by the World Cinema Project, premiering again at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
* The film contains scenes of violence against animals.
