"Before the Revolution," an early masterpiece by one of Italy's most important directors, Bernardo Bertolucci, tells the story of a young Marxist grappling with the conflict between his political ideals and the bourgeois lifestyle he cannot escape. Fabrizio, who rebels against his family's values but struggles to abandon the comforts of bourgeois life, becomes entangled in a disturbing relationship with his aunt. The film, featuring music by Ennio Morricone and characterized by its intense dialogue, was filmed in Parma, Bertolucci's hometown, and undoubtedly carries personal touches. In an interview, he said about the film: "...this film was a kind of internal purification ritual, an attempt to sever all ties with my childhood and youth."
