About Venue
Zincirli Mosque, on Anafartalar Street in Ulus opposite the Anafartalar Bazaar, was built by Ankaravi Mehmed Emin Efendi (1619-1687), chief judge of Anatolia and later Şeyhülislam, which is why it is also called Kazasker Mosque. It has neither inscription nor endowment deed and is dated to the second half of the 17th century. It is an Ankara-type mosque without a dome: rectangular, with mudbrick walls with timber ties on a stone base under a hipped tiled roof, a porch of three pointed arches on cut-stone piers, a coffered wooden ceiling with two hexagonal centrepieces, a five-sided plaster mihrab rising to the ceiling and a walnut minbar in kündekari technique. Governor Hurşit Paşa restored it in 1879-80 and the General Directorate of Foundations in 1937; it is open and in use all day.
