Yeşilköy Lighthouse.
Bakırköy, İstanbul
About Venue
A historic lighthouse on the Yeşilköy headland in the Yeşilköy quarter of Bakırköy. It is one of the lights that ships coming from the Marmara meet as they head for the Bosphorus, and they use it to set their course into the strait. It was built as a stone tower in 1856 by Michel Pasha, of French origin, and was first called the Ayastefanos lighthouse after the quarter's former name. Beside the 23-metre tower stands a keeper's house; the structure was restored three times between 1945 and 1988. As a working navigational structure it is seen from outside, from the Yeşilköy shore.
