About Venue
A four-block apartment complex designed by Kemaleddin on Ordu Caddesi in Laleli, next to the Laleli Mosque. Built between 1919 and 1922 with public donations on the site of the Koska Madrasa to house people left homeless by the fire of 1918, it was first called Harikzedegan, the apartments for fire victims. It is regarded as the first public housing project inside the city walls and one of the first modern reinforced concrete buildings in Istanbul, with 124 flats and 25 shops. Transferred to the Turkish Aeronautical Association, it became the Tayyare Apartments, was used as housing until 1985 and is now a hotel.
