Sultanahmet Meydanı (Hipodrom)

The Byzantine chariot-racing arena survives as the long square in front of the Blue Mosque. The Egyptian obelisk, the Serpent Column and the Walled Obelisk that once stood on the track's central spine trace three thousand years of history; the German Fountain dates from around 1900. Allow 20 minutes as the start of a walk.
