Şile Lighthouse.
Şile, İstanbul
About Venue
Standing on rocks 60 metres above the sea on Şile Point, about a kilometre northeast of the town of Şile, this lighthouse was built in 1859 in the reign of Sultan Abdülmecid and first lit in 1860. The white shaft of the 19-metre octagonal stone tower is ringed with narrow black horizontal bands, and a single-storey keeper's house is attached. Its light can be seen 20 nautical miles away and has run on electricity since 1968. It is on the Directorate General of Coastal Safety's list of lighthouses opened to tourism and, according to the Turkish Wikipedia, now serves as a museum. Current visiting days and hours should be checked in advance.
