Samatya Square and Market.
Fatih, İstanbul
About Venue
Samatya, one of Fatih's quarters on the Marmara shore, takes its name from Psamathion, meaning sandy. The Samatya Gate on the shore had a landing stage and was surrounded by houses with gardens. For centuries the quarter was home to different communities living together. Today it is known for the historic market behind the railway line and its fishmongers. Because it has kept much of its historic fabric, the series İkinci Bahar and the film Three Monkeys were shot here. Every year the square hosts the Istanbul Fish Festival of the Şehristanbul Association.
