Müze Gazhane

Müze Gazhane in Hasanpaşa, Kadıköy, is the converted form of the plant that opened in 1892 to supply town gas to the Asian side and was the last gasworks built in Istanbul. After 101 years it closed in 1993; thanks to residents and volunteers who opposed its demolition the site was protected, and after a restoration guided by the architectural historian Afife Batur it opened as a cultural centre on 9 July 2021. Run by İBB Kültür AŞ, it houses the Climate Museum, the Cartoon and Humour Museum, a children's science centre, the Afife Batur Library, an İstanbul Kitapçısı bookshop and two City Theatres stages. The museums close on Mondays.
