About Venue
Melike Hatun Mosque rises in Ulus, east of Gençlik Park on the old Hergelen Square. Designed by Hilmi Şenalp of Hassa Mimarlık, it was built between 2013 and 2017 and opened for worship on 27 September 2017. It is named after Melike Hatun, a benefactress who lived in Ankara in the 14th century and contributed to the city's social and religious life. Designed in the classical Ottoman type, it also uses Seljuk and modern elements. It has a prayer area for 7,000, a dome 27 metres across and over forty metres high, and four minarets of 72 metres with three balconies each; the inscriptions on its entrance doors are worked in gold leaf, mother-of-pearl and ivory. It is close to Ulus station on the M1; the minarets are lit at night and show from Gençlik Park.
