About Venue
A han on Mahmutpaşa Yokuşu, built in the second half of the 15th century as part of the foundation of Mahmud Pasha, grand vizier to Mehmed the Conqueror. The TDV Encyclopedia of Islam counts it among the city's first commercial hans. The two-part building measures about 128 by 68 metres; in the regular square first part, two storeys of rooms surround a central courtyard, while the northern part has an irregular plan. The original building is reckoned to have had 127 rooms. Worn by centuries of additions, it is now filled mainly with shops selling wool and haberdashery.
