Kızılcahamam Jeopark Müzesi

The Kızılcahamam Municipality's museum in the district centre is the indoor exhibition of the Kızılcahamam-Çamlıdere Geopark, Türkiye's first geopark. On the ground floor ten displays explain the formation of Anatolia, volcanism, the geological timescale and how trees turn to stone; the 23-million-year-old petrified wood specimens are here. Upstairs fifteen displays introduce the geopark's stops: the Pelitçik and Yahşihan fossil forests, the Güvem-Beşkonak lake deposits, diatoms and basalt columns. Microscope tables, a film and interactive games are designed for children. Starting a geopark trip here teaches the language of the rocks and fossils you will meet in the field.
