About Venue
One of the two historic pools of the Atatürk Forest Farm, built in 1931. The pools were conceived to collect excess water while the marshes were being drained and to irrigate the fields; one was dug in the shape of the Sea of Marmara and one in the shape of the Black Sea, and in the 1930s they were where Ankara swam and rowed. When the Black Sea Pool fell into disuse it was restored within the grounds of the State Cemetery, opened on 30 August 1988, and it now stands as an ornamental pool; swimming is not allowed. The cemetery is run by the Ministry of National Defence and is open to the public; most of its 536,000 square metres is green space and it contains a small museum.
