İslam Bilim ve Teknoloji Tarihi Müzesi

Opened in May 2008 in the former Imperial Stables building beside the outer wall of Topkapı Palace in Gülhane Park, the museum shows a counterpart of the collection that the historian of science Fuat Sezgin had made at his institute in Frankfurt. Instruments described by Muslim scholars between the 9th and 16th centuries were rebuilt as models from the descriptions and drawings in period texts. In sections covering astronomy, clocks and navigation, medicine, physics, chemistry and optics, mathematics, architecture and geography, the astrolabes, celestial globes and the model of al-Jazari's elephant clock stand out.
