Ishak Ağa Fountain (The Seven Fountains)
Beykoz, İstanbul
About Venue
The İshak Ağa Fountain opposite the Beykoz pier square is known locally as Onçeşmeler, the Ten Fountains. It was rebuilt in 1746 by İshak Ağa, commissioner of customs, on the site of an earlier fountain built by Behruz Ağa. The wide-eaved roof covering the open area, about 6 metres wide and 8 metres long, rests on eight marble columns and twelve pointed arches. Water runs continuously from ten bronze spouts on the front, which give the fountain its name. The inscription in monumental thuluth script is by Edirneli Emin Efendi. The fountain belongs to the General Directorate of Foundations and still flows today.
