Fountain of Sultan Ahmed III (in front of Topkapi Palace).
Fatih, İstanbul
About Venue
A square fountain built in 1728-1729 under Sultan Ahmed III, on the square between Bab-ı Hümayun, the outer gate of Topkapı Palace, and Ayasofya. It has a fountain at the centre of each face and semicircular sebils with three windows each at the four corners. With its wide-eaved lead roof, carved flowers on the mirror stones and gilded reliefs, it is an early example of the Western influence that entered Turkish art in the Tulip Period. A poem by Seyyid Vehbi runs around its facades, and its final couplet is by Ahmed III.
