About Venue
A neoclassical arcade with a courtyard in Beyoğlu, linking İstiklal Avenue with Meşrutiyet Caddesi. Built by the Greek merchant Hacopulo, it opened on 15 April 1871 and is also known as the Danışman Passage or the Han Passage. Buildings of partly two and partly four storeys stand around a courtyard, and the İstiklal entrance is a narrow corridor covered by six cross vaults. Ahmet Mithat Efendi's printing house worked here, and Namık Kemal published his newspaper İbret on its presses. Today the lower floors have tea stalls and small shops; sources note that the upper floors are neglected and that the arcade awaits restoration.
