About Venue
A historic cinema hall in the Cercle d'Orient building on İstiklal Avenue. It opened at the end of 1924 as the Melek (Angel) Cinema, named after the Art Nouveau angel statues beside the screen, and in later decades, as the Emek, became one of the cinemas of Yeşilçam Sokağı. It was known for its gilded ceilings and baroque and rococo decoration. The cinema closed in 2009; the building was demolished and rebuilt in 2013, and the hall reopened in May 2016 on the fifth floor as the Emek Stage. The hall of about 500 seats, which reuses the old decorative elements, hosts film screenings, concerts, theatre and galas; entry is with an event ticket.
