Dördüncü Vakıf Han

A foundation office block designed by Kemaleddin on Hamidiye Caddesi in Sirkeci, next to the Grand Post Office. It was built to bring income to the Ministry of Pious Foundations on the site of Abdülhamid I's Hamidiye complex; begun in the 1910s, it could only be completed in 1926 because of the wars. The seven-storey building stands on a steel frame, with two corner towers, facades clad in stone and marble, 24 shops and 148 offices, and two staircases set 30 metres apart according to fire regulations. For a long time it also housed the Istanbul Stock Exchange. It has been a hotel since 2006; its facade is seen from outside.
