About Venue
An Ottoman inn beside Çengelhan at Atpazarı, close to the main gate of Ankara Castle. It dates from the 16th or 17th century and belonged to the endowment of Ankaravi Mehmed Emin Efendi, the chief mufti of his day; it underwent major repairs in 1791 and 1801. A two-storey building of timber supports over stone foundations and brick walls, it carries a partial basement because of the slope on its western side, and its rectangular courtyard is entered from the north. In the early 2000s it was placed on the World Monuments Fund's list of buildings needing urgent rescue; between 2007 and 2010 it was restored to its original form and the courtyard was roofed in glass. It now operates as a lodging house, so the building is seen from the outside.
