About Venue
An earth-fill drinking water dam on the Çubuk Stream, built between 1961 and 1964 about six kilometres north of the Çubuk district centre. It is 61 metres high and holds 22 to 24 million cubic metres in a lake of 1.2 square kilometres, fed by the Mendek, Kışla, Hacıkadın, Bağırcan, Çayır and Kırkpınar streams. The water descends through a 34-kilometre pipeline to the Pursaklar treatment plant and serves both Ankara and the Çubuk district. Because it is still a working drinking water source, ASKİ has declared its basin a special protection area: entering the water, picnicking, lighting fires and leaving waste are forbidden. Although the Çubuk Municipality lists it among its picnic spots, a visit should be limited to seeing the dam wall and the lake from a distance.
