Cibali Tütün Fabrikası ve Rezan Has Müzesi

The Cibali Tobacco Factory on the southern shore of the Golden Horn was built in 1884 for the Régie administration by the architect Alexandre Vallaury and produced cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco and snuff, first under the Régie and after 1925 under the state monopoly Tekel. Employing more than two thousand people, many of them women, it closed in 1994. The building was leased to the Kadir Has Foundation in 1997, opened as a university campus in 2002, and its restoration received a Europa Nostra award in 2003. The Rezan Has Museum inside shows a Byzantine cistern dated to the late 11th century, Ottoman-era remains and an exhibition on the factory's labour history.
