Cağaloğlu Turkish Bath.
Fatih, İstanbul
About Venue
A double bath completed in 1741 to provide income for the library Sultan Mahmud I founded in Ayasofya. It is one of the last great public baths built before Mustafa III banned new baths within the city in 1768. Its plan keeps the classical layout, with a hot room of four iwans and four private cubicles, while its decoration shows the Baroque influence that arrived from the West in the 18th century. The men's and women's entrances open onto different streets. Sources give different names for its architect. It still operates as a bath.
