About Venue
In the centre of Boğazkale, eighty-two kilometres from Çorum, the museum of the finds from the Hittite capital Hattusa. It opened on 12 September 1966 and was rearranged in 2011. That year the two sphinxes found at Yerkapı in 1907 came home: the pieces had been sent to Berlin for restoration in 1915-1917, one returned to Istanbul in 1924 and the other was handed back from Berlin in 2011 after long negotiations; the two have stood side by side here since 26 November 2011. The display runs chronologically from the Chalcolithic to Byzantium: the bull-headed vessel thought to represent the storm god, cuneiform tablets, hieroglyphic inscriptions, models of Hattusa and the Great Temple, and Roman and Byzantine grave stelae. Open every day, Müzekart valid.
