About Venue
Beykoz Kundura is a group of buildings that began in 1810 as a tannery bought on the orders of Mahmud II to supply leather to the army, and it is counted among the oldest factories in Istanbul. Handed over to Sümerbank in 1933, the factory made millions of pairs of shoes a year in the 1970s and closed in 1999. Since 2005 its stone and brick buildings have been used as a film and television set, and in 2018 the old boiler house was renovated as Kundura Cinema and Kundura Stage. The Kundura Memory project collects the factory's archive. It is not open for casual visits; visitors attend scheduled events, and exhibitions are seen by appointment.
