Ayazma Mosque.

Üsküdar, İstanbul

About Venue

The Ayazma Mosque on the Salacak slopes of Üsküdar was built by Mustafa III in the name of his mother Mihrişah Emine Sultan and his elder brother Prince Süleyman. Work began in 1758 and ended in 1761; the Ayazma Palace that stood on the site gave the mosque its name. In this building with Ottoman baroque features, a semicircular flight of ten steps leads up to the portico. The single-domed prayer hall has a mihrab, minbar and preacher's chair of marble and coloured stones, with a royal pavilion on the left side and bird houses shaped like miniature pavilions on the outer walls. It reopened for worship in 2022 after an extensive restoration.
