About Venue
A neoclassical arcade in Beyoğlu linking Sahne Sokağı with Meşrutiyet Caddesi. Built on a plot cleared by the Beyoğlu fire of 1870, it was commissioned by the Armenian merchant Onnik Düz and completed to a design by Domenico Pulgher in 1874. About 56 metres long, three storeys high and lined with 22 shops, it has a facade of Maltese stone and a floor of Trieste stone. It is known for the female statues on its upper inner facades and its partly glazed ceiling. Because it was first lit by gas lamps set in front of mirrors, it is also called the Mirrored Arcade. Today its shops sell souvenirs, ceramics, carpets and antiques, and it connects with the Çiçek Arcade through the Fish Market.
