About Venue
An arcade, cinema and museum on İstiklal Avenue, in a building erected in the 1870s as a winter residence for the palace banker Agop Köçeyan. It served as a courthouse in 1918-1922 and then as the Directorate of Post and Telegraph, and was turned into an entertainment venue in 1932. The Atlas Cinema, opened in 1948 with 1,860 seats, was one of the largest in Beyoğlu at the time. Transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1992, the building was restored and the Istanbul Cinema Museum opened in 2021. Its three floors hold wax figures of Yeşilçam actors, directors' belongings, posters and an interactive digital memory section. The Atlas Cinema screens films again.
