Ankara Somut Olmayan Kültürel Miras Müzesi

Opened in 2013 in a traditional Ankara house on Öz Sokak off Talatpaşa Bulvarı in Hamamönü, this is Turkey's first museum of intangible cultural heritage. Founded by the Turkish Folklore Research and Application Centre of Gazi University, funded by the Ankara Development Agency and housed in a building allocated by the Altındağ municipality, it has living rooms instead of display cases: workshops for ebru marbling and linden-block printing, a corner for shadow and puppet theatre, a tale room, a bridal room where lullabies are sung, a conversation room for the storyteller, and a play room for mangala and five stones. Karagöz, meddah storytelling, orta oyunu and the tales, folk songs and rhymes of Ankara are part of the programme. Its largest audience is primary school children; call the museum for open days.
