Halide Edib Adıvar's novel, "The Shopkeeper of the Alley," is being adapted for the stage in a one-person performance. The story follows Rabia, who grows up in late Ottoman Istanbul, caught between tradition and change, East and West, and faith and freedom. A single actor brings to life the various characters and voices, portraying the conflicts within Rabia's world through a single performance.
