Sibel Köse “Vistula’dan Boğaz’a Uzanan Caz Köprüsü”
Sibel Köse, who has forged strong ties with Poland since the early 1990s, brings together leading figures from the Turkish and Polish jazz scenes in a special concert as part of the 36th Akbank Caz Festivali. Pianist Bogdan Hołownia is known for his masterful playing, theory books, and work dedicated to Polish composers. The musician, regarded as one of the jazz world’s most respected accompanists for the space he creates for soloists and his sophisticated harmonies, will be joined by İmer Demirer, whose interpretation is deep and open to surprises. On double bass is Wojciech Pulcyn, the backbone of the group and Demirer’s longtime friend, while Cem Aksel, one of Turkey’s most experienced rhythm masters, is on drums. The group’s repertoire, whose members have previously come together in different projects, includes jazz standards as well as selected songs from Kabaret Starszych Panów, created for Polish television by Jerzy Wasowski and Jeremi Przybora between 1958 and 1966. With the support of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Istanbul, this gathering, taking place on Sunday evening, October 4, at Akatlar Cultural Center, invites listeners to witness jazz’s unifying power across geographies by building a cultural bridge from Warsaw to Istanbul.
