Sersem Kocanın Kurnaz Karısı
Haldun Taner's play, "The Cunning Wife of the Dazed Husband," a work that sheds light on the history of Turkish theater, will be performed only 10 times this season at DasDas Sahne!
What is theater? Just two planks and a bit of enthusiasm... The play begins...
Moliere's "George Dandin" is being rehearsed by the Tomas Fasülyeciyan Company, who are forced to travel to Bursa. Then, the stage transforms into a version adapted by Ahmet Vefik Paşa, a pioneer of Turkish theater. And the atmosphere changes.
Commedia dell'arte, improvisation, and spontaneous performances...
Haldun Taner's masterpiece, "The Cunning Wife of the Dazed Husband," takes the audience on a fun journey, showcasing the major transformation of Turkish theater through the concept of a play within a play.
Should the West be imitated, or should it be transformed and made our own?
Should we be faithful to the text, or embrace the freedom of improvisation?
While posing these questions with subtle humor, the play also reflects the Westernization journey of Turkish theater. It seamlessly blends laughter and sadness, and masterfully reveals the tension between tradition and innovation on stage.
