ABOUT POLONEZKÖY
Polonezköy, established for Polish people who were forced to leave their country after the Polish Uprising of 1830, was founded by Prince... Adam Czartoryski. Founded in 1842 under its leadership, the village's original name was dedicated to its founder. Adampol....which translates to "Adam's Village."
At that time, Paris was the center for Polish political émigrés. Prince Adam Czartoryski sent Michal Czajkowski to Istanbul with the aim of establishing a second political center in Ottoman territory. Later, he converted to Islam. Sadiq Pasha.Czajkowski, who the town is named after, played a significant role in securing the forested land where Adampol would be established.
Initially, the village was home to only 12 people, but its population gradually increased over time. In addition to soldiers who participated in the 1830 Polish Uprising and the Crimean War, Polish people who escaped from exile in Siberia and captivity also settled here. For many years, the villagers worked in agriculture, animal husbandry, and forestry. From before World War II, Polonezköy became one of Istanbul's popular destinations for recreation and summer vacations.
