Oscar nominee. Lost Painting. Rithy Panh, known for his work, this time turns his camera towards the indigenous Bunong people who live in the mountainous region in the northeast of the country. Their agricultural practices, passed down through generations, their cyclical relationship with nature, and a way of life where bartering is possible instead of using money; all of this is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain in the face of globalization, the pressure of corporations on the land, and the climate crisis. Panh, combining years of footage with archival images from different periods, documents a disappearing culture and questions the modern world, where land is defined by ownership, nature by resources, and life by economic value.
