The unforgettable voice of Turkish music, the "Diva" of the Republic, Müzzeyyen Senar, is being commemorated on stage by two prominent theater artists.

In the biographical play "Müzeyyen," Ayşegül Yalçıner, who won the "Woman of the Year Performance" award and has captivated audiences with her role in the play "Celile," stars alongside Damla Özen, who has been on screens and stages since the television series "Kaygısızlar," which aired in 1994.

What does a person do when they encounter their own youth? Does the path one chooses determine their current position in life? Would Müzeyyen Senar have become an unforgettable diva even if she had taken a different path? Müzeyyen, who established the tradition of female soloists in Turkish music with her rich and captivating voice, who sang for Atatürk on numerous occasions, and who emerged stronger from the wreckage of her marriages, becoming a legend – how did she become the Müzeyyen Senar we know?

The music for the play was composed by Can Alper, while the direction and script were written by Ali Yalçıner.
"Müzeyyen" is reaching audiences all across Turkey.

The Kadıköy People's Theatre's play, "MÜZEYYEN," which premiered in March 2025, portrays the life of Müzeyyen Senar, a prominent figure of the Turkish Republic, while also realistically conveying the political, social, and cultural history of that era to the audience. The story, told through the life of Müzeyyen Senar, actually highlights the process of any woman constructing her own identity, while also reflecting the turning points, challenges, struggles, choices, and the costs associated with those choices in any woman's life. Throughout the play, a young and an older version of Müzeyyen Senar are on stage simultaneously, drinking raki together; they share memories, gossip about former husbands and musician friends, sing songs, confront the past, and offer the audience moments of both joy and sadness.

He has been awarded the 2025 Üstün Akmen Special Award.
