Since its founding in 1972, Mummenschanz has captivated audiences around the world and brought excitement to theater halls. With its production created especially for its 50th anniversary, the award-winning Swiss troupe takes audiences on a journey woven with imagination and poetry, bringing the most beloved sketches from its half-century repertoire back to the stage.

Founded in Paris in 1972, Mummenschanz became one of the world's most important representatives of contemporary mask theater, transcending cultural and linguistic boundaries. The troupe's three founders, Floriana Frassetto, Andres Bossard, and Bernie Schürch, conquered the world without saying a single word, using an entirely visual language of masks that seemed to float in space against a black backdrop. Under the name Mummenschanz, they created a wholly new and unique field in the performing arts.

Following Andres Bossard's death in 1992 and Bernie Schürch's retirement in 2012, Floriana Frassetto has continued to be the award-winning troupe's primary artistic driving force. To celebrate the troupe's 50th anniversary, Frassetto designed a special production that takes audiences on a half-century journey through Mummenschanz's enchanting world.

The show brings the most beloved and successful works from past years back to life. Legendary characters such as the Clay Masks and Toilet Paper Faces appear before audiences once again. “50 Years” also features delicate air-inflated Giants, the Tube Creature, and many other extraordinary objects and forms, brought to life by the troupe's five performers. The production also includes sketches featuring surprising new forms and characters that reflect Mummenschanz's distinctive spirit.

“50 Years” takes audiences on a two-hour magical and spellbinding journey through a world created by Mummenschanz's imagination, a world that feels as infinite as it does familiar. “50 Years” offers a fun, interactive, and poetic theatrical experience for audiences of every generation.
