Kapıdağ, a peninsula connected to the Erdek district of Balıkesir, is surrounded by the Marmara Sea, Avşa Island, and Paşalimanı to its south. This area, which was once an island, gradually transformed into a peninsula over time due to the constant impact of waves and the accumulation of sediment. The region is rich in water resources and has been inhabited since ancient times. The oldest known settlement in the area is Kzikos. Forests cover 17,686 hectares of the peninsula. The Bandırma Bay is located on the eastern side of the isthmus where the peninsula connects to the mainland, while the Erdek Bay is located on the western side. The Kapıdağ peninsula is an example of a tombolo formation.

The western border of Mysia is defined by the Gönen River (Aesipos), while the eastern border is marked by the Orhaneli River (Rhyndakos) and the Nilüfer River (Odrysses). The main elevated areas of the region are the Kazdağları (Mount Ida) in the west, the Uludağ (Mount Olympus) in the east, and the Simav Mountain in the southeast.
(Temnos) The Mysians, known for their bravery and fighting prowess, were renowned as a warrior people, often fighting with bare hands and spears. They also served as mercenaries in other armies. Homer mentions the Mysians, who fought bravely, alongside the Thracians who raised horses, the noble Hippemolgi who were raised on milk, and the Abii, who were considered the most righteous people, as allies of the Trojans.

They use them for medicinal purposes, in cosmetics, as fuel, as animal feed, as building materials, as insect repellents, and as dyes. It is one of the regions in Anatolia with the richest biological and cultural diversity.
Traditional herbal knowledge.
According to scientific sources, a total of 668 plant species have been identified in the Kapıdağ Peninsula, including 10 endemic species unique to Turkey. At least 88 of these plants have been found to be used for various purposes, primarily for food and medicinal uses, as well as for fuel, herbal tea, ornamental plants, dyes, and other applications. Despite covering only 0.04% of Turkey's land area, this peninsula is home to approximately 6% of Turkey's plant species, and 13% of these plants are used by the local population. This makes the region a veritable botanical paradise and a living ethnobotanical heritage site.
St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) is used in the form of St. John's Wort oil or tea. Arbutus unedo fruits are eaten fresh, used to make jam, the branches are used as fuel, and the leaves are used as animal feed. The fragrant flowers of the broom plant (Spartium junceum) are used as decoration in homes, and the branches are used to make brooms.
The Kapıdağ purple onion, also known as "fish onion," has been granted a geographical indication. Kapıdağ is one of only three regions in the world, after Sicily and Australia, that have official recognition for its purple onions.
Kyzikos Ancient City, home to some of the world's most remarkable features.
Kyzikos (Greek: Κύζικος) is an ancient city located near the modern-day district of Erdek, on the coast of the Sea of Marmara. Today, Kyzikos is also known as "Belkıs" and "Balkız." The city's settlement area is bordered to the north by the Dindymos Mountain (Bear Mountain), the villages of Hamamlı and Belkıs (Yeniköy); to the west by the Erdek Bay and the village of Düzler; to the south by the Erdek-Edincik-Bandırma highway; and to the east by the village of Aşağıyapıcı and the Bandırma Bay. Due to its location, Kyzikos was one of the most important factors that enabled access from the Sea of Propontis (the Sea of Marmara) to the western world of Asia Minor.
Strabo of Amaseia, a prominent geographer of antiquity.Kyzikos was a city that rivaled the most important cities of Asia in terms of beauty, size, and the excellence of its administration. Its urban layout was similar to that of Rhodes, Massalia, and Carthage. Furthermore, the electrum coins it began minting in the mid-6th century BC significantly contributed to the city's growing trade and prosperity, as well as its reputation. The Kyzikos amphitheater, located between the villages of Belkıs and Hamamlı, is also noteworthy, being the second largest after the Colosseum in Rome. biggest; largest; most important. It is an amphitheater. It also dates back to the Roman period. biggest; largest; most important. Here is an example for each column.
Cherry Monastery.
,
The Kirazlı Monastery is located at an elevation between the villages of Yukarıyapıcı and Ballıpınar (Kocaburgaz), near the northeastern coast of the Kapıdağ Peninsula, approximately six kilometers west of the village of Ballıpınar. According to Orthodox tradition, the monastery was built on the site of an ancient temple. Formerly a religious center for the Greek community in the region, the monastery was visited by thousands of people who sought blessings from the icon of Panagia Faneromeni (the Virgin Mary of Faneromeni), believed to be a work of the Apostle Luke and to have performed miracles. Today, this famous icon is displayed in the cathedral of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in Istanbul.
The monastery, abandoned in 1922, is hidden among the trees. It doesn't reveal itself until you get very close.
From the magnificent building, constructed in 1895, only remnants remain: high walls and the largely ruined remains of a church.
The beauty of the nature surrounding Kirazlı Monastery, combined with the sound of the water flowing nearby and the sounds of nature, creates a feeling as if music unique to that place is being played.
The harmonious beauty of Monemvasia and its surroundings, adorned with an unprecedented array of colorful flowers, especially in the autumn and spring, evokes a sense of peace and spiritual feelings in visitors, perhaps due to the fact that people have been worshipping there for centuries...
