Introducing our family's very own "Miss Turkey," without the crown!

The play "Miss Turkey," written by one of the most prolific authors of recent years, Ali Cüneyt Kılcıoğlu, invites us to explore the stories of women who have participated in the Miss Turkey competition, using an ironic approach. The irony in the play's title also distinguishes the text itself. The play highlights how, for years, the female body has been viewed as a "tool for consumption and pleasure," while the woman's inner self has always been ignored. It argues that "beauty pageants" have no real meaning in terms of representing a woman's identity in a meaningful way. The true winner, the "queen," is defined not by societal pressures and dogmas, but by the resilience of the marginalized and victimized female identity, and the determination of the surviving female body to continue living.

The "Miss Turkey" game offers a unique approach in terms of both content and form. It presents a married woman who is experiencing concepts like "deception" and "othering," and as she confronts these issues, it leaves us with a "sociological" and "psychological" analysis, prompting us to reflect. This is where the "form" comes into play. Instead of expressing her situation through sadness, the woman narrates it with a "humorous" perspective, which doesn't necessarily make us sad or make us laugh outright, but rather creates a sense of detachment that fosters awareness and encourages reflection. Yes, we might laugh at the absurdity of the situation, but because it's presented in such a detached way, everything feels balanced. Women should continue to tell their stories, and we shouldn't dismiss them as "just another woman's story," because each story contains a different social perception, a different outcome, and a different lesson. Both the essence and the form of each story are unique.

The play, with its rapidly shifting scenes and interconnected plotlines, promises a unique experience, both in terms of acting and audience enjoyment, as a single female actor portrays approximately 10 different characters. This production fulfills the play's potential through the compelling and authentic performance of Ece Özdikici, one of the most prominent actresses of recent years.
